BW19: Happy Mother's Day

She Is the Quiet

by

Jen Ambrose

She is the quiet that settles in after the storm,

not the thunder,

not the flash—

but the stillness that holds the house together

when everyone else forgets to breathe.

She is the hand that never lets go,

even when it seems like she has.

Invisible strength tucked in folded laundry,

school lunches,

and the way she always remembers

what you forgot to say.

She doesn’t ask the world for attention.

She listens for the creak of the floorboards,

knows the weight of each footstep,

feels the shift in the air

when someone needs her.

Her love isn’t loud.

It’s the worn chair at the kitchen table,

the light left on in the hallway,

the way she knew before you did—

what you were carrying.

She is the thread.

Not the needle. Not the fabric.

But the thing that binds it all

so gently

you don’t realize it’s there

until something unravels.

And still, she stays.

Even when she’s tired,

even when her heart is stretching

farther than it should,

she stays.

Not because she has to.

Because she chooses to.

Every day.

BW20: Happy Mother's Day!

My Mother Kept a Garden

My Mother kept a garden,

A garden of the heart.

She planted all the good things

That gave my life its start.

She turned me to the sunshine

And encouraged me to dream.

Fostering and nurturing

The seeds of self-esteem.

I am my Mother’s garden.

I am her legacy.

And I hope today she feels the love

Reflected from me.

BW19: Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day my lovelies!  Hope you all are having a marvelous day, celebrating with your families.  We all have colds so I gave my son one task: go to my Amazon wish list, pick something out, make sure it's prime, and will arrive in one day.  Easy Peasy.  I'll let you know what he found for me.

Read a book with your mother's name in the title or is written by an author with your mother's name

Read a book with mother, mom, mama, mater, or other variation in the title.

Read a book about a mom.

Read a book about becoming a mother.

From stalkers to saints, moms run the gamut in kids' books.  We read Horton Hatches the Egg and the Runaway Bunny so many times over the years. Another favorite not listed is Lisa McCourt's I love You Stinky Face about unconditional love which we enjoyed reading so much, I had to duct tape the cover together to keep it from falling apart.

BW19: Motherhood by Katherine Dykstra

Happy Mother’s Day, my lovelies. This week is dedicated to you and all mom's everywhere including our angel moms. She who goes by many names including ma, mama, mum, mother, mumsy, mamman, mutter, mathair, mor, madra, majka, maji, mater and my favorite, she who rules the roost.

Motherhood

by

 Katherine L. Dykstra

Baby dolls and dinosaurs-
one that cries, one that roars
The pitter patter of little feet-
a bike race in which they want you to compete
Fruity Pebbles, pancakes, no wait! a pop-tart-
those daily moments that steal your heart
One throws tantrums, the other just pouts-
ahh, the joys of motherhood- what life is all about
Another birthday - two paychecks in all-
but, it is so worth it with smiling memories on the wall
From late night tears to early morning grumps-
through all the bruises, scrapes and bumps
The kisses and hugs, the encouraging words-
from nursery rhymes to the bees and the birds
The laughter, the memories, those looks in their eyes-
never trade it for anything - never compromise
The toys left out, the clothes on the floor-
these are the moments we mothers live for
For we are the ones who are there through it all-
to always make it better and pick them up when they fall
From kissing their boo-boos and making sure they're fed-
passing down stories while tucking them into bed
Through the weight gain, cravings, labor and more-
to that one special moment we spend 9 months waiting for
Eighteen years is what they say, but our work is never done-
a lifetime of tears, laughter, sadness and fun
Nothing in the world can even come close-
to the one special bond God made matter the most
A relationship only two certain people can share-
a mother and her child, nothing will ever compare...

Happy Mother's Day

BW19: Happy Mother's Day

Willow Tree - Tenderness

“A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and
sudden fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity;
when friends desert us; when trouble thickens around us,
still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts
and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and
cause peace to return to our hearts.” ― Washington Irving

This week is dedicated to all mom's everywhere including our angel moms. She who goes by many names including ma, mama, mum, mother, mumsy, mamman, mutter, mathair, mor, madra, majka, maji, mater and my favorite, she who rules the roost. Yes I made that last one up but it's true isn't it! My mother ruled the roost with love and schedules when I was growing up, keeping me and my four siblings in line. Which is probably why we are all so organized to this day with our day planners and white boards and charts. *grin*

Your mission this week is to read a book about moms or with mom characters or with mother in the title. Or spell out mother or ma or use one of the many variations, reading one book per letter in the title.

19 Badass Literary Moms Who Need To Be Celebrated

Who is your favorite literary mom? Two of my favorite moms are Molly Weasley from Harry Potter and Charlotte Mira in J.D. Robb's In Death series who later in the series becomes like a surrogate mom to Eve. So very sweet yet tough.

Happy Mother's Day, my lovelies.

A Rose for Mother

by

Cleo M. Shoffstall

Another Mother's Day is here,
Bringing joy and pleasures new,
On this special day, Mother dear,
I want to remember you.

I cannot give you costly gifts,
And I've told you this before,
No matter what I give to you,
You give back much, much more.

I'm giving you a pure, sweet rose,
Gathered in the early morn,
This rose you planted in my heart,
The day that I was born.

In kindly, loving thoughts of you,
And with the faith you still impart,
The rose I give to you today,
Is the love that's in my heart.

Happy Mother's Day!

BW20: Happy Mother's Day

My Mother Kept A Garden

(anonymous author)

My Mother kept a garden,
A garden of the heart.
She planted all the good things
That gave my life it's start.
She turned me to the sunshine
And encouraged me to dream.
Fostering and nurturing
The seeds of self-esteem.
And when the winds and rain came,
She protected me enough.
But not too much because she knew
I'd need to stand up strong and tough.
Her constant good example
Always taught me right from wrong.
Markers for my pathway
That will last a lifetime long.
I am my Mother's garden.
I am her legacy.
And I hope today she feels the love
Reflected back from me.

Happy Mother's Day!

BW20: Happy Mother's Day

In the Garden - George Goodwin Kilbourne

Happy Mother's day, my lovelies. Whether your child is 6 months, 6, 16, 26 or even 36, you are there for middle of the night feedings to middle of the night heartfelt chats. Motherhood's nest is always open and ever comforting.  And when you need wisdom, a dose of I told you so, a good laugh, a healing cry or a not so patient nudge out the door, you can rely on your mom to know the right thing to do.

Your mission is to read a book about mothers.  There are many different avenues to pursue from essays to humor to self help to real life to fiction. Books about mothering, motherhood, mothers and son or mothers and daughters. Nurturing and creating, cooking and tending.  Relationships and life, rights and wrongs.  Books talking about traditions and different cultures and how mothers are honored around the world.   Find a book with mother in the title or challenge yourself to read several books with one letter in the title to spell out mother.

Happy reading!

BW19: Happy Mother's Day

Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman

Happy Mother's Day, dear hearts.  One of my favorite memories is reading to my son when he was so much younger, books by P.D. Eastman and Dr. Seuss to name a few.   Now we're reading things like Inside Hitler's Bunker and the Iliad.  *grin*

I really can't remember what books I read with my mother when I was a child.  Probably Dr. Seuss since I have a picture of me at 7 reading one of his books to my little brother.  I think the 50's / 60's generation probably all grew up on Dr. Seuss.

What was your favorite book growing up?

In honor of my mother and mother in law and to everyone whose mother has passed.

My Mother My Angel

by

Kathy Parentau

Once upon a time an angel held my hand,
She wiped away my tears and helped me understand.
Our time on earth is brief, there's lessons to be learned,
Each precious day God gives us another page is turned.
Every chapter full of memories, times of joy and tears,
Triumphs and defeats, through every passing year.
She loved us unconditionally, always by our side,
When no one else would listen, in her we could confide.
With gentle words of wisdom she led us on our way,
Down the paths of righteousness if ever we did stray.
She saw the light in everyone and gave with no regrets,
Always from her heart let's not forget.
Angels come in many forms, for me it is my mother,
With love I cannot say in words there'll never be another.
Every day I turn the page in my heart will ever remain,
Everything she taught me as I stroll down memory lane.
Thank you God for giving me the most priceless of all treasures,
Help my Lord to keep alive her memory here forever.
I pray that I can some day be everything she hoped I would,
That's she smiling down from heaven knowing she did good.
As we gather here today there's no ending to her story,
Another chapter has begun full of grace and glory.
God's called her to his heavenly home, part of his great plan,
Although it may be hard, we all must understand.
Faith is what is hoped for, things we cannot see,
Heaven is promised to all of us if only we believe.

Hugs, love and kisses and have a wonderful Mother's day.
