BW25: Happy Father's Day

Happy Sunday and happy Father's day to all our dad's. The June Solstice is upon us as of the 20th which means we are celebrating the beginning of Summer here in the Northern hemisphere and Winter in the Southern hemisphere.

An Ode To Dads

by

Melodia Ortez

Dads are the rock that holds us strong,

A compass to guide us all along,

The foundation of our lives they create,

A stronghold of love that's never late.

With strength and support, they stand by our side,

A beacon of hope that never hides,

Dads are the world we live in each day,

And their love is what lights the way.

Y is for Yabba Dabba Do, Yesteryear, Yum, and Yes.

BW25: June Solstice

Happy Father's day to all our dad's. The June Solstice is upon us as of the 21st and we are celebrating the beginning of Summer here in the Northern hemisphere and Winter in the Southern hemisphere.

Read a book or books with or about Father, Summer, Winter, or any of their synonyms in the title.

35 Best Winter Themed Books for Cold Days

I love reading books with Winter settings in which the characters must not only battle one another, but the icy, frigid conditions. I thoroughly enjoyed the Kate Shugak series by Dana Stabenow and currently have the 23rd book in the series, Not the Ones Dead in my stacks to read.   Northern Lights by Nora Roberts is also one I return to every year.

We recently lost Cormac McCarthy, the author of numerous books including No Country for Old Men, The Road, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and most recently The Passenger, which I have on my shelves, and the sequel, Stella Maris.  In honor of McCarthy, I'll be reading The Passenger, sooner rather than later.

BW25: Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day!   Let's celebrate the dad, papa, pop, daddy, father, old man, poppa, sir, or pa or whatever you call him.  My dad is 83 years young and still going strong. He's out today at Six Flags with another one of my sisters having fun riding the roller coasters.  I found this great poem entitled What Makes a Dad  and just had to share:

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so, He called it ... Dad

In honor of Father's Day, let's read a book with Father or any derivative in the title.  One of my favorite is

Then you can't go wrong with Father Brown

Check out Goodreads humongous list of books with father in the title and have fun picking out a book to read.  It is interesting that if you do a search for literary dads, the common denominator is King Lear, Atticus Finch, and Prospero.    One of my favorite dads in literature is Arthur Weasley. Who is yours?
